Arthur Miller classic is performed on Bute
Tensions rise among David Beeves' friends and family: from left, Gustav (Edward M. Corrie), Amos Beeves (Christopher Anderton), Pat Beeves (John Clyde) and David Beeves (Stephen Bisland).
The UK tour of Arthur Miller’s play The Man Who Had All The Luck visited Bute on Wednesday.
The joint production by the Sell a Door Theatre Company and Mull Theatre brings to life Miller’s tale of David Beeves, a motor mechanic in small-town America whose life is a seemingly endless series of slices of good fortune, at home and at work.
And while that might at first glance suggest that Beeves’ life is a bed of roses, it quickly becomes clear that this is far from the case - not least when those closest to “a good young man” notice that their own lives aren’t benefiting from the same strokes of luck.
The talented cast, including Stephen Bisland as David Beeves, Christopher Anderton as his brother Amos, John Clyde as his well-intentioned but misguided father and Megan Elizabeth Pitt as his long-suffering wife, brought Miller’s script to life brilliantly, perfectly capturing the wildly swinging emotions of the characters.
Unfortunately the cast’s voices weren’t always as well amplified as they could have been, but that technical problem aside, The Man Who Had All The Luck had all the hallmarks audiences throughout the Highlands have come to expect from productions involving Mull Theatre over the years.
