CAPTAIN David Bower is pictured reading his favourite newspaper, The Buteman, during a brief break from his army duties in Afghanistan.
David recently celebrated 24 years of service in the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers whilst serving as the Army Repair Officer embedded in 1710 Naval Air Squadron.
The squadron’s role is to provide a structural repair facility for all of the UK’s helicopters in Afghanistan.
David, who was born and brought up on Bute, said: “During my time in the Army, I’ve served in Iraq, Turkey and Norway as well as on board a number of Royal Navy ships. This tour, which is my third in Afghanistan has been a rewarding experience for us all.
“The helicopters that we repair in this challenging environment are vital to the operation here and it’s immensely satisfying for the whole team to complete a job and return the aircraft to the squadron.”
* We know from our weekly subscription list that The Buteman travels all over the world, but can you provide pictorial evidence of just how far your favourite weekly paper goes? Any and all photographs of The Buteman being read in far-flung or unusual locations would be gratefully received – if we receive enough pictures, we just might make a regular feature out of it! Email your pictures to email@example.com with details of who is in the picture and when and where it was taken.
