THE man behind Alabama 3, the group whose song ‘Woke Up This Morning’ accompanies the opening credits of The Sopranos, brings a brand new five-piece band to Bute this weekend.
The Very Rev Dr D. Wayne Love is the man behind St Jude, whose line-up also includes Alex One, Paul ‘Lefty’ Wright, and Mr Gavin McGinty, and who play Craigmore Bowling Club this Saturday, April 23.
Their tour set will feature new material, classic Alabama 3 songs and reworkings of some famous tunes.
The Very Rev’s bandmates boast some decidedly eclectic backgrounds: Alex One, for example, plays guitar and sings for the Glasgow-based Swampwinos, “beyond question the least hard working band on the planet” (their own words!), while ‘Lefty’ Wright has recorded for many well-known artists, including The Beautiful South, The View and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band as well as Alabama 3.
With support from Sonic Templars, who include former Rothesay Academy pupil Rory Durrant among their line-up, it should all make for an intriguing mix from 8pm this Saturday night - tickets, priced £10, are still available from Musicker, Rothesay Music and Rothesay Post Office.
