The volunteering efforts of 24 Bute young people have been recognised with the presentation this week of Saltire Awards.

The group received certificates on Saturday recognising their work with local charity Achievement Bute, presented by members of the Celtic folk-rock band Skerryvore during the group’s workshop at Rothesay Pavilion.

Three volunteers received certificates to recognise 25 hours’ volunteering, while 16 were rewarded for 50 hours, three for completing a hundred hours and one, Dylan Wilson, for two hundred hours.

Saltire Awards, designed to formally recognise the commitment and contribution of youth volunteering to voluntary organisations, are open to those aged 12-25 who want to volunteer, learn new skills and gain new experiences.

More on this story in the new issue of The Buteman - on sale from Thursday, December 19.
