A Look Back at 2014: Raft Race

As we take a look back over the past year’s events, we thought we’d give you another chance to view clips from 2014’s annual raft race.

The Isle of Bute Sailing Club event, which was held on August 10 in conjunction with Light Up Bute, saw six teams compete against one another for the top prize, sailing their homemade rafts from Children’s Corner to the clubhouse across the bay.

The 'Tartan Ladettes' from Bute Fabrics won first place in the Isle of Bute Sailing Club's annual raft race in August.

Taking part were ‘Pugwash Buccaneers’, ‘Appalling 11’, ‘Noah’s Ark’, ‘Tartan Ladettes’, the ‘Young Farmers’ and ‘The Co-op’.

The 2014 race honoured David Gaston, who died suddenly on August 10 last year and was a regular supporter of the race as a crew member on the Co-op’s raft. A minute’s silence was observed in memory of David, and a trophy in his name was presented to the team behind the ‘best raft’.

Taking home the first place shield were the ‘Tartan Ladettes’ from Bute Fabrics.
