Paul Anderson (42), address given as Roseland Chalet Park, Canada Hill, Rothesay, pleaded guilty at the town's sheriff court to sending several messages of a grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing character to the girl from an address in Mo
ntague Street on November 17 last year.
Fiscal depute Nadine Dormer said Anderson had sent five separate messages to the girl on the date in question, causing her to alert first her mother and then the police.
Jim Hannay, defending, said Anderson, who had known the girl involved since she was "very small", had been part of a group which had been drinking at the time the messages were written, and he and the others had felt they had been joking when sending the texts.
"These were disgusting messages sent to a 17-year-old girl," Sheriff John Herald told Anderson.
"The one thing in your favour is that you accept that if similar messages had been sent to your own daughter, you would not have been happy."
Anderson, who was already on probation for an earlier offence, was told sentence on the latest matter would be deferred to the end of his probation period.
