One year-old Irish terrier Sunny escaped unharmed after his leap from the flat in Gallowgate, suffering little more than a grazed snout.
"He's not even broken a nail," astonished owner Sarah Connell told The Buteman. "He's a super dog!
"I thin
k his whole body is sore now but the only thing he's got is his nose and top lip are a little grazed."
Sarah was over visiting her partner, who lives and works on the island, when the incident happened.
The couple had gone out for about an hour with their children, leaving Sunny in the flat.
"We were on the putting green for awhile with the kids and I think he could see us from window. After we went to Somerfield and got back to find out he wasn't there."
The canine's great escape was caught by police on CCTV camera on Sunday afternoon at 12.15pm. The footage, which has now become a hit at the station, shows the dog hardly hesitate before attempting his death-defying stunt.
The resourceful dog managed to wedge open a window the couple had left ajar, before scurrying out to the gutter and launched itself off the rooftop.
Happily Sunny landed unharmed on the road side in front of the Flicks video store - very narrowly missing a rather startled passer-by who took the dog to the local police station after waiting to see if its owners would turn up.
"When I came back and was told what had happened I thought he'd be dead," Sarah told us.
"I was looking for signs on the ground and it was the woman in the video shop that told me to call the police."
"I don't know the name of the man who took him to the station, but I really want to thank him. Sunny's quite good at escaping from our garden but he's never done anything like this before."
Sergeant Paul Miller was on duty at Rotheasy police station at the time, and dealt with the unusual case.
He told us: "A man came into the station and said 'You're not going to believe this but the dog just feel out of the sky!'
"When the owner came to the station, she couldn't believe it when we showed her the CCTV footage.
"I've heard of it raining cats and dogs but not like this."
