CONTROVERSIAL changes to a block of flats in Port Bannatyne will be scrutinised by local councillors on Tuesday.
Members of Argyll and Bute Council's Bute and Cowal area committee will consider an application for retrospective planning permission for the Buckingham Terrace block in the village's Castle Street when they gather at the Queen's Hall in Dunoon on Ju
ne 23.

Work on the long-derelict block was halted last month after concerns were raised that modifications to the top floor might breach an existing planning permission for the building.

A number of Port Bannatyne residents raised concerns about the visual impact of the work on the top floor and the possible impact on the privacy of other homes in the village.

Tom Brennan, the agent for Amjad Chaudhry of Barryrange Ltd, which owns the block and is carrying out the refurbishment work, told us when the row erupted that the creation of a dormer window on the top floor of the building was the result of a misunderstanding, and work had been stopped as soon as the error was realised.

Mr Brennan has also said that if public opinion in the village is against the redevelopment, the company will complete its work on the first of three closes in the block before closing up the rest and walking away.
