Cathy McKirdy, who teaches languages to pupils at all the island's primary schools, will support schools across the country in their attempts to develop overseas partnerships of their own.
Cathy has already established links between Rothesay Prim
ary and a school in Paris, with plans for a visit to the French capital this summer already well advanced - and now she's in communication with a school in Stockholm too.
Rothesay Primary pupils have already sent their Swedish counterparts a cuddly highland cow called Robbie, courtesy of Barbara at Butterflies, and are awaiting a Swedish teddy in return.
These partnerships with France and Sweden led to an invitation by the British Council for Cathy to speak at a conference on Global Partnerships Between Schools on January 25.
Whereas past partnerships might have been limited to occasional letters and telephone calls, the links Cathy is establishing make as much use as possible of 21st-century technology.
"When the Swedish teddy arrives it will visit a different pupil's home each weekend," Cathy told us, "and that way the children will be able to show the children in Stockholm how we live in Scotland.
"Using IT we will communicate by email, power point, digital photographs and by a blog.
"As an ambassador I will build on the experience of this initiative and share it with others."
Rothesay Primary head teacher, Kirsteen MacDonald said: "We are very proud of Cathy's achievement and how she has brought global education to the fore.
"She has been instrumentral in forging links with a school in Paris who visited us in June 2007 and where we will be paying a return visit in June 2008. That is what it is all about."
