A HELICOPTER from the Scottish Ambulance Service made an impromptu landing on the Winter Garden putting greens at 9.30am this morning after a medical emergency required an elderly woman to be flown to Glasgow's Southern General hospital.
The 73-year-old woman, who suffered a head injury following a fall near a residence on Argyll Street, was flown to the hospital at about 10am to receive treatment and is said to be recovering well.

Due to the nature of her injury and her age, the emergency team decided it would be safer to move her as little as possible and instructed the helicopter to land as close to Argyll Street as possible - instead of using the usual landing pad at the stadium on the High Street.

The putting green had not yet opened for business and was the closest appropriate 'open space' available to the pilot near the scene of the accident.

Passers-by gathered round the aircraft to snap a picture of the unusual traffic-stopping sight, requiring a police presence to ensure the safety of the curious onlookers when the helicopter took off.
