A CAT loving couple from Rothesay are celebrating this week after a team from the People's Postcode Lottery arrived on Bute to present cheques to the town's first jackpot winners.
Bob Wade (79) and his wife Margaret (80), of the town's Serpentine Road, won a half share in the lottery's top prize of £25,000 after their postcode of PA20 9HG was pulled out of the hat in the People's Postcode Lottery weekly draw.

Rothesay's win
ning streak continued as the pair's luck spread to a further 20 winning tickets in the surrounding neighbourhood that shared the Postcode Sector Prize of £5,000, with prizes ranging from £147 to £441.

Bob and Margaret, who share their home with rescued cats, were shocked to discover the People's Postcode Lottery's Street Prize presenter Angus Purden, and a camera crew, at their door ready to deliver the good news.

The grandparents of five have lived in the neighbourhood for more than 30 years. One of their sons, David (52), still lives on the island, and their other son, Stuart (47), lives in Manchester.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust, one of the PPL's chosen charities, is a cause close to the Wades' hearts. They have as many as 37 rescued cats in their home at one time, and not surprisingly plan to spend at least part of the money on helping more of their feline friends - though they're also planning a holiday and a little spoiling of their grandchildren too!

Said Bob: "We are so pleased to have won. I think we will go on holiday to the Algarve - we didn't think we could afford it this year but now we can, what a lovely surprise!

"The money will also help us to take in more rescue cats. That is why we decided to sign up to the People's Postcode Lottery, because it supports Scottish charities."

This is the People's Postcode Lottery's 16th draw since starting in January, but already Scottish players have won more than £430,000. What's more, as Scotland's own charity lottery, the People's Postcode Lottery has donated an amazing £100,000 to its Scottish charity partners; CHILDREN 1ST, Maggie's Centres and the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

The People's Postcode Lottery is a subscription lottery, with entries based on a player's postcode, plus a three-digit, unique personal code. Each ticket costs £2 per weekly draw, with subscriptions being paid in advance by monthly direct debit.

The Wades' moment of truth was broadcast on Monday's edition of STV's Postcode Challenge quiz show, which is sponsored by the People's Postcode Lottery; the show also featured brief footage of some of the other Rothesay winners receiving their cheques.
