2015 IN VIDEO: Rothesay’s first Banana Olympics

Our look back at the news of 2015 in video begins with a selection of clips from the very first Banana Olympics event, held at Rothesay Primary School back in March.

The event was organised by pupils in S3 at Rothesay Academy who are part of the XL Project in the school, and were looking for an unusual way to take part in the Fairtrade Foundation’s annual awareness-raising campaign.

Bute's first Banana Olympics event was held in March 2015.

And the impact of the day was felt far beyond the school’s four walls: the pupils who organised the event went on to lift the Community Impact prize at the Prince’s Trust Celebrate Success awards in Edinburgh in November, when the school’s youth worker, Ailsa Cassidy, told us she believed the Banana Olympics had played a big part in their success. Congratulations all!
