2015 IN VIDEO: Rothesay pupil’s youth award nomination

Our final look back at the video stories of 2015 on Bute takes us back to August and the nomination of Rothesay Academy pupil Thomas Howat for the Volunteer of the Year prize at Argyll and Bute’s annual youth awards.

In our clip the school’s youth worker, Ailsa Cassidy, explains a bit about 15-year-old Thomas’s volunteer work in the community and why she nominated him for the prize.

And it was a prize Thomas, a member of the Academy’s XL Group, would go on to win at the annual AB Awards ceremony in Oban a month later - when he was joined on the list of winners by former Rothesay Academy pupil and past member of the Scottish Youth Parliament David McLaughlin, who received the Citizenship Prize.

Nor was it the last XL celebration of the year for Rothesay - the Academy’s S3 XL pupils went on to win the Community Impact prize at the Prince’s Trust and Samsung Celebrate Success awards in November.
