Disabled drivers on Bute who qualify for discounted travel on the island’s ferry services are being reminded to take their eligibility documents with them every time they travel.

Until recently, CalMac ticket sellers were able to check a vehicle driven by a ‘blue badge’ holder was eligible for the cheaper fare simply by looking at the tax disc in the windscreen.

But following a change in the law from October 1 which removed the requirement to display a valid tax disc, that method of checking quickly is no longer available.

CalMac’s Clyde area operations manager, Simon Richmond, told members of Bute Community Council: “Because there is no requirement to show a tax disc, we now require ‘V5’ documents to be produced for every journey.”
