Rothesay Bay on the day of a Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club regatta in the 1890s.

This week’s picture winds the clock way back to the 1890s, when Rothesay was a renowned centre for sailing on the Clyde.

It was taken on the morning of a Royal Northern Yacht Club regatta in the bay, and shows two paddle steamers of the time - the Galatea and the Marchioness of Breadalbane - threading their careful way between the regatta’s participants on their way to and from the pier.
