Nostalgia: ‘Golden oldies’ for Bute indoor football?

Rothesay Brandane AFC are considering including a 'golden oldies' competition for older players, to be played at walking pace, as part of the club's 2014-15 indoor football competition at Rothesay Pavilion. This bygone indoor team features Callum Charker, A. Frazier, Hughie Charker, Matt Martin and Henry Tait.

The organisers of Bute’s annual indoor football tournament are considering introducing a ‘golden oldies’ section for this year’s competition.

Rothesay Brandane AFC are looking at the move as a means of boosting interest in the tournament, played at Rothesay Pavilion between November and March, as well as providing an opportunity for former players to exercise and socialise.

The idea is based on the concept of ‘walking football’, a walking-pace version of the game for older players which is growing in popularity across the UK.

As part of their efforts to gauge interest in the idea, two members of the Brandanes’ committee, Hector Whitelaw and Henry Tait, have shared with us their collection of indoor football team photos from years gone by.
