This week we turn the clock back to remember another local sporting success story - the Bute Rugby Club team who won the SRU’s Glasgow and District League Cup competition this week in 1996.

Bute won the trophy in dramatic - and particularly memorable - circumstances when Ally Murray’s injury-time try earned a 13-10 win over Strathclyde University in the final at Hughenden in the west end of Glasgow.

The Bute squad who lifted the trophy comprised A.U. Murray, A. Hayes, A.J. Murray, N. MacLeod, N. MacLennan, I. Cowie (captain), I. McLennan, R. Macintyre, R. MacLeod, S. Bodys, R. Sutherland, J. Burke, R. Templeton, C. McArthur, D. Fowler and replacements W. Kay, J. Lyle and J. Bicker.
