Forty children have been having a magical time at Rothesay Joint Campus this week, taking part in Achievement Bute’s Wizard Week.
We caught up with the young witches and wizards on Wednesday afternoon, where we found them brewing potions with ingredients including Unicorn Nails and Pixie Pips, while others were hard at work making their very own magical wands.
Incantations were being recited in another room, and our guided tour by Zander - the sorcerer’s apprentice - proved very informative!
On Friday (August 9), the children will be putting on a special performance for their friends and family at the campus, accompanied by two very adept magicians - Viola Da Gamba and Stradivarius (Stradi) Strachan - who, in the normal muggle world are known best as cellist Duncan Strachan and violinist Rachel Spencer.
The Spencer Strachan Duo have been working with Achievement Bute and Live Music Now, which is an organisation originally founded by legendary violinist Yehudi Menuin, and was set up to enable young musicians to perform to a wide range of people, many of whom may not have had the opportunity to experience music performed live.
This special display will see the children perform their spells, set to music by The Spencer Strachan Duo, with an additional performance by the musicians, in keeping with the magical theme of the week.
The performance will take place at 3.30pm in the main hall of Rothesay Joint Campus.
