Eclectic mix at the Vic with Bobby Wishart

editorial image

Making a welcome return to Bute - and to the island’s jazz scene - was Bobby Wishart, accompanied by the Tim Saul Jazz Trio.

Bobby stepped onto the stage at the Victoria Hotel this afternoon in front of a large and enthusiastic audience, and reminded those who’d fallen in love with his sound at the island’s annual jazz festival of the reasons why.

Playing ‘My Funny Valentine’ and ‘Cheek to Cheek’ on saxophone, those in attendance were captivated by the control he has of the instrument, and the production of such clear crisp notes at the top of the register.

Swapping to another instrument from the same family, Bobby picked up the flute for a Bossa Nova, which allowed him to expertly demonstrate ‘flutter-tonguing’, which creates a wonderful rasping sound.
