The annual Ballianlay Choir Christmas Concert last night was a massive success - raising £2000 for Rothesay Joint Campus, where the concert was held.

The concert, directed by Mrs Fiona Shaw, saw the ever-talented Ballianlay Choir take to the stage with a variety of Christmas-themed songs, including ‘Walking in the Air’ from The Snowman, and ‘O’ Holy Night’.

Solos from Russell Philips, Meg Young and Fiona Shaw were very much enjoyed by the audience, as were a selection of compositions by Anne McGhie on guitar, and a lively piece from Robin Brandon-Turner on oboe.

The island’s community band were also strong in numbers, having added several new instrumentalists over the past year, and played a wide variety of pieces from Phantom of the Opera, Lassau’s Trombome, Christmas Festival and the James Bond Suite.

The choir and band joined forces on several numbers - ‘Homeward Bound’, ‘Wherever You Are’ and ‘Sing’ and received raptuous applause from those in attendance.

At the close of the evening, Principal of Rothesay joint Campus, Mrs Wendy Brownlie, offered thanks to everyone who contributed to the wonderful sum of £2000, which she said would ‘go a long, long way’.
