Raft builders throughout Bute are putting in extra hours preparing for next month’s Rothesay Raft Race.

The sound of hammers and saws drew us in to the back garden of local charity Achievement Bute’s headquarters in Castle Street on Wednesday, when we found a small team of builders hard at work on their craft under the direction of Jim Docherty and Euan McKay.

This year’s race, organised as in previous years by the Isle of Bute Sailing Club, takes place on Saturday, August 10 - if you haven’t yet registered your interest or requested an entry form, time is running out, but you can still do so by contacting Lorna Campbell on (01700) 502351 or Heather Price on (01700) 505567.
