Members of a Rothesay exercise group have presented a donation to the equipment fund at the town’s Victoria Hospital.

The Fit for Life group gave a cheque for £342 to Pauline Murty, NHS Highland’s assistant locality manager for Bute, before sitting down to enjoy their Christmas lunch at the Victoria Hotel on Friday.

The group, which is now overseen by the NHS, formerly came under the aegis of Bute Connections, and was told during the process of the changeover that they had a small surplus in the bank.

The group’s 18 members decided to donate the cash to the Victoria Hospital equipment fund, which is used to pay for additional items beyond those catered for by the NHS’s own budget.

“We recently bought an additional ECG machine with money from the fund,” Pauline said, “and we’ve used it in the past to purchase items such as pressure-relieving mattresses, which are hugely expensive.

“We’re very grateful to the members of the group for their donation.”

The Fit for Life group meets weekly at the Moat Centre in Rothesay and is run by physiotherapy assistant Kirsty Brown and Jog Scotland exercise leader Jim Sweeney.
