QUARTER of a century of Bute jazz memories go on display at Bute Museum in Rothesay on Thursday ahead of the 25th Isle of Bute Jazz Festival this weekend.

The exhibition of photographs, posters, tickets andprogrammes from as far back as the inaugural festival in 1988 is sure to stir memories among locals and visitors alike - and even includes a few jazz instruments!

The display will remain on show for the duration of the event.

The Bute festival has shown remarkable durability over the last 25 years, having grown from a humble two-day festival with just half a dozen bands to a firm fixture on the Scottish jazz festival calendar, attracting such legendary names as Acker Bilk, Chris Barber, the Temperance Seven and Les Haricots Rouges, to name but a few, to experience the island’s beautiful scenery and warm hospitality.

The museum in Stuart Street, which also hosts permanent displays telling the stories of the island’s archaeology, natural history, industrial and tourist development, agriculture, maritime heritage and much more, is open from 10.30am-3.30pm Monday to Saturday, and from 1.30pm until 3.30pm on Sunday.

A preview of the 25th festival can be found in the News section of this site.
