Bute’s tourist officer has denied that the island’s tourism and marketing group is failing to promote Rothesay’s ethnic restaurants.
Leo Plaster was responding to a post on The Buteman’s Facebook page on Friday noting that the town’s Indian, Bengali and Chinese restaurants did not appear on the VisitBute website.
Nigel Sutherland wrote: “It’s good that Visit Bute are promoting the island, and I am impressed with their website.
“That is until I noticed that the “Where to eat” page doesn’t promote any of the island’s ethnic restaurants.
“I know from TripAdvisor that Shona Gaon, for example, is well rated, and we also have The [India] Pavilion, Jade Garden, and Sea Dragon - all sit-down restaurants serving good food.
“It didn’t take long for No 29 to be added to the Visit Bute page when it opened recently, so it seems odd that the Chinese, Bangladeshi, and Indian restaurants are notable by their omission.”
Mr Plaster responded: “We are a membership organisation so members have to pay £75 or £150 to be on there (otherwise we couldn’t run visitBute or the site).
“No. 29 approached us as soon as they opened to become a member. You’ll notice Kingarth, Chandlers, West End Takeaway, Zavaroni’s and 3in1 (just off the top of my head) aren’t on there either as they aren’t members.
“Every business is welcome to join and we obviously don’t discriminate on any grounds. If any of the aforementioned businesses want to become a member then they are more than welcome to email me at email@example.com.”
