A summit on fuel prices to be held in Glasgow this month is to look at ways of bringing down the cost of fuel in Scotland’s remote and island communities.

The summit, organised by the Scotland Office, will take place on January 31 - after the result of a probe by the Office of Fair Trading into petrol and diesel prices is published.

The event has been organised after Argyll and Bute MP Alan Reid voiced concerns in the House of Commons that the fuel duty discount of 5p per litre, introduced to island communities in March 2012, was not being passed on to motorists.

Mr Reid said: “I want to question fuel wholesalers and the OFT to find out why the price of fuel is so high on our islands and remote and rural parts of the mainland and see what can be done to bring prices down.”
