The life and legacy of the third Marquess of Bute will be showcased in a BBC radio documentary on Friday.

‘Bute: Dreams of the World’s Richest Man’ will be broadcast on Radio 4 at 4pm on December 28.

Presented by Jonathan Glancey, the programme looks at the life and legacy of John Patrick Crichton-Stuart and his remarkable contribution to British art and architecture, concentrating on his three Gothic Revival marvels - Mount Stuart on Bute, Cardiff Castle and Castell Coch.

The 30-minute documentary will be available on the BBC iPlayer for seven days after Friday’s broadcast.

The life and work of the third Marquess was explored in detail earlier this year in ‘The Grand Designer’, an in-depth 352-page work written by former Bute resident Rosemary Hannah which drew heavily on the exclusive access she was given to the Bute family archives.
