Normal Rothesay ferry service set to resume
After almost two weeks of disruption, normality is set to return to the Rothesay-Wemyss Bay ferry service from Saturday afternoon, according to Caledonian MacBrayne.
Subscribers to the company’s SMS service status alerts received a message just after midday on Saturday announcing that the normal published timetable would resume from 2pm - 13 days after MV Bute was forced out of service by a clutch fault caused after a rope became entangled in a propeller.
The vessel carried out sea trials on Friday afternoon and docked at Rothesay pier shortly after 5pm, but hopes of a return to normal service were dashed when she returned to the James Watt Dock in Greenock for further attention later in the evening.
Since the Bute’s breakdown on September 16, a one-ship service has been maintained by her younger sister MV Argyle, with assistance from CalMac’s spare ferry, MV Isle of Arran, over part of the September holiday weekend.
