Ferries Plan ‘a disappointment for Rothesay’
The Scottish Government's ferries plan says there is no prospect of later sailings on the Rothesay-Wemyss Bay route - for the time being at least.
Bute Community Council’s transport spokesman says the lack of improvements to the Rothesay service in the Scottish Government’s Ferries Plan is disappointing - but understandable.
As reported on this website, the plan rules out enhancing the Rothesay-Wemyss Bay service because any improvements would be ‘disproportionately expensive’, but does commit to a year-round 9pm finish to the Rhubodach-Colintraive timetable - a scaled-back version of an original proposal which would have seen the service run until midnight.
Frank Baxter, who deals with transport matters for BCC, told The Buteman: “Extending the timetable is a good, positive move for the Colintraive ferry, although I am a little disappointed that they haven’t even considered just one later sailing on the Wemyss Bay run, perhaps at weekends during the winter.
“They can do it in the summer so I’m not sure why it isn’t a possibility during the winter too.”
