Ex CalMac chair joins Bute ferry fare delegation
THE former chairman of Caledonian MacBrayne’s parent company has spoken to The Buteman after a Bute delegation travelled to Edinburgh to discuss the thorny topic of ferry fares with Scotland’s transport minister.
Rothesay resident Peter Timms, who stood down as chairman of David MacBrayne Ltd at the end of his term of office in November, was part of the Bute team who met Keith Brown in Edinburgh on February 19.
Mr Timms, now back in his ‘day job’ running Rothesay-based firm Flexible Technology Ltd, and his fellow delegates stressed the impact of the high cost of travel on the island’s hard-pressed economy - already home to some of the highest deprivation levels anywhere in Argyll and Bute.
“I’m pleased that the minister and officials listened carefully to what we had to say,” Mr Timms told The Buteman, “and that they agreed to consider the issue further.”
