Michael Russell MSP, seen here receiving a petition on ferry fares from Jean Moffat on a recent visit to Rothesay, has become the first Scottish politician to launch his own app.

Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell became the first Scottish politician to launch his own app this week.

Mr Russell’s app is designed to keep constituents informed of the work of their MSP and update residents on matters of interest in Argyll and Bute. Local news, weather, travel and jobs also feature.

The app is available for free download for iPhone and iPad in the App store. Android and other platforms will be available shortly, and it can be accessed for other platforms or for your computer desktop by clicking on the link to the right of this article.

Mr Russell said: “I am delighted to be launching this service for my constituents. It is vital that they have as much information as possible on the matters that affect them.

“Politicians have to keep up date and understand how people prefer to receive their information and that means keeping abreast with technology.

“People who are busy and on the move rely on their mobile devices to keep up to date, and the app will sit alongside our website and the more traditional newsletter as well as social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

“I am determined that the people of Argyll and Bute should have the best access possible to information about the work I am doing on their behalf.”
