Bute Fabrics registers new range of Stuart tartans
The new Stuart of Bute 2013 design - the basis of a range of 12 original tartans to be made by Bute Fabrics.
A range of 12 tartans based on a new Stuart of Bute 2013 design has been lodged with the Scottish Register of Tartans.
The new designs are part of a new range to be launched by local firm Bute Fabrics, owned by the seventh Marquess of Bute and based in Barone Road in Rothesay.
The 12 contemporary tartans, in different colourways, are all based on the design of the traditional Stuart/Stewart of Bute Hunting tartan.
They will be woven only on Bute, providing work opportunities for island residents and revitalising traditional weaving skills, and will be used for both clothing and upholstery.
Bute Fabrics returned to tartan production in 2012, after a gap of many years, when the firm was commissioned to manufacture a 60-metre roll of tartan for the Society of William Wallace.
