Bute’s street theatre group gave its first performance in its new guise at North Bute Primary in Port Banantyne on Friday.

Sit Ye Doon, the new name for the group, previously known as Bute Street Theatre, was chosen to reflect a change in the main focus of their live performances from theatre to storytelling.

The change came about after two members of the group decided to move from Bute to the mainland - main actor Phillip Toop has moved to Glasgow to continue his drama studies, and will appear in the play Dirty Water at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe later in the year, while fellow performer Julie Marchant is moving to Fife.

The remaining two actors, Susan Crawford and Jenny Toop, made their debut as Sit Ye Doon at North BUte on Friday afternoon, performing a play called ‘Munchkin Punchkin’, based on a folk tale.

Susan and Jenny have arranged to perform for St Andrew’s Primary pupils on Monday, March 18, and for Rothesay Primary pupils after the Easter holidays; they also plan to put on performances for senior citizens and other vulnerable groups later in the year.
