The countdown to Christmas on Bute starts this weekend with Christmas fayres at Colintraive and Ballianlay.

Bute’s Christmas countdown starts this weekend with not one but two festive fairs offering food, arts and crafts and a range of gift ideas.

The first takes place at Colintraive village hall, just a short ferry crossing from Rhubodach at the north end of the island, from 11am until 3pm on Saturday (November 17), when handmade gifts, cards, jewellery, clothing, sweets and cakes will be on sale along with quality foods from Argyll firms Loch Fyne Oysters and Winston Churchill Venison.

There’s also the chance to enjoy a free mince pie and mulled wine, while all entry fees will go to the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.

Then on Sunday (November 18), from 11am to 4.30pm, it’s the turn of the Ballianlay Christmas Fayre, at the Straad Hall near St Ninian’s Bay, featuring pintings, drawings, cards and other artworks by Ruth Robertson, mirrors, wood-based items and jewellery from Ray, Angela and Amy Beverley and delicious home baking and sweets from Tara Timms and Hazel Robertson.

There’ll also be a special pillar box where children can post their letters to Santa - so make sure you have your list written out by Sunday!
