Bute radio station celebrates three years on the air

Local community radio station Bute FM celebrated its third year of broadcasting on Sunday, July 15.

At midday - the exact moment of the three-year anniversary - birthday messages were aired from figures including first minister Alex Salmond, STV weatherman Sean Batty, Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley and broadcaster Paul Coia.

Host Jim Prentice then conducted interviews with long-term volunteers Marlene Hill, Marion Sayers and Alan Donald, after which the now traditional group sing-a-long took place.

A version of ‘Reach Out (I’ll Be There)’ by the Four Tops was performed.

A Bute FM spokesperson said: “As we enter the fourth year of broadcasting our community radio service to Bute and beyond, now is the perfect time to thank everyone who contributed to our third birthday celebrations: to everyone who commented on our Facebook, emailed, phoned and texted us to pass on their birthday wishes; to all our volunteers who contributed on the day and especially those who put in work behind the scenes; and to the weel-kent folk who sent us their birthday messages.

“Lastly, but most importantly, a big thank you to all our listeners for their support both on the day and over the last year!”

A daily give-away of prizes donated by local businesses continues the service’s celebrations until July 22.
