Anne Spiers speaks at Port Bannatyne WRI
President, Mrs Nikki Edgar, welcomed a good turnout of members to the February meeting. The speaker for the evening was Mrs Anne Speirs, who had chosen as her topic ‘A Museum in a Bag’.
She gave a brief history of how the Museum started in Bute and all the different sites it occupied before arriving in Stuart Street.She had brought along items from the handling collection - household items, holiday keepsakes, war articles and even a Port collection, which included a miner’s hammer from the slate quarries.
Anne is the Curator of the Archaeology and History section of the Museum as well as managing the shop. Her enthusiasm and pride in the museum was evident in her most interesting talk.
