ROTHESAY'S inner harbour will be dammed and drained of all its water ahead of its planned redevelopment over the next few months.

The pace of the redevelopment work will also quicken after the Christmas period, the island's three councillors were told on Monday.

Isobel Strong, Robert Macintyre and Len Scoullar met Keith McLean, project manager for contractor Balfour Beatt
y, for the first time on Monday to hear a little more about what the next few months will hold for users of the pier area as the 34-week contract progresses.

Balfour Beatty has decided that the most efficient way to carry out the work on the inner harbour redevelopment scheme is to drain it.

The remaining weeks until Christmas are to be mostly taken up with preparatory work and some preliminary demolition to enable Balfour Beatty's employees to really get stuck in to the scheme in the new year.

One interesting snippet revealed on Monday - as all parties made strenuous efforts not to be blown away by the stiff breeze! - was that there will only be some two dozen staff working on the project at any one time.

Work is also to be put on hold for two weeks over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

As to what will happen when, Mr McLean told his small audience that the idea is simply to work on each aspect of the project as quickly as possible, rather than prioritising one section ahead of any other.
